Students from Years 4 to 6 (and from 2017 some Year 3 students) take part in a home reading program called Literacy Pro.
Literacy Pro is an individualised reading program with an online assessment tool designed to encourage students to read texts matched to their abilities.
Students complete the online test at the beginning of each school term which enables both teachers and students to track the student’s reading progress. The score they achieve in the test indicates the level of reading which when matched to a Lexiled book of the same or similar level, the students would competently be able to read and comprehend.
Lexiled books are available for loan in the library and can be borrowed before and after school or during the middle learning block (11am -1pm) of each school day. Students can select books 50 points below and 100 points above their Lexile level.
Students can complete online quizzes at home or school via their Literacy Pro login. It is important that students complete the quizzes on their own and don’t use the texts to search for the answers. Once quizzes are completed, points will be awarded and can be viewed in the My Results Tab on the Literacy Pro website.
Class teachers may award special recognition to students based on individualised goals set at the student, class or whole school level.
Our whole school goal for 2017 is to read 50 000 000 words by the end of the year. At each assembly we will share our progress with the whole school.
